Yvonne Chan

Dr. Yvonne Chan is the founder and principal of the Vaughn Next Century Learning Center in Los Angeles, which serves 3,000 pre-kindergarten-10th grade students living in poverty. She is also an adjunct professor at UCLA. Dr. Chan served as a member of the California State Board of Education for seven years and as a Commissioner of the Los Angeles City Commission for Children Youth and Families. Ms. Chan was awarded a Hart Vision Award in 1999 for her leadership role in the California Charter Schools Movement.

Dr. Chan received the Legacy Award at the 20th Annual Charter Schools Conference. The Legacy Awards were created to celebrate those outstanding charter school supporters, funders, operators and elected officials who have been stewards of the movement over the last 20 years. Each Legacy Award winner represents the hope and dedication of two generations of California Charter School students.
