Reed Hastings

Reed Hastings co-founded Netflix as a DVD rental-by-mail company in 1997 and since led its transformation to become the world’s leading streaming subscription service for watching movies and television programs. In addition to being CEO of Netflix, Reed is a member of the board of directors of Facebook, as well as several educational nonprofits, including the California Charter Schools Association. Reed is an active educational philanthropist and served as President of the California State Board of Education from 2000 to 2004. Mr. Hastings currently serves on the CCSA Board of Directors. He was awarded a Hart Vision Award in 2001 for his leadership role in the California charter school movement.

Mr. Hastings received the Legacy Award at the 20th Annual Charter Schools Conference. The Legacy Awards were created to celebrate those outstanding charter school supporters, funders, operators and elected officials who have been stewards of the movement over the last 20 years. Each Legacy Award winner represents the hope and dedication of two generations of California Charter School students.
