Dr. Vicki Barber

Dr. Vicki Barber has been elected to five terms as El Dorado County Superintendent of Schools, starting in 1994. Dr. Barber is known throughout California as an expert in a number of education areas, including education finance, special education, charter schools, and accountability. Dr. Barber has taken statewide leadership roles on the Public Schools Accountability Act Advisory Committee, the Sub-Committee on Alternative Schools Accountability Model, the State Board of Education and the statewide Advisory Commission on Charter Schools. As an innovative leader, Dr. Barber created the first charter only SELPA in California, and led the effort that resulted in the opportunity for charter schools to join SELPAs outside of their geographic regions. Dr. Barber sets the standard for collaborative work that is driven by the needs of students, families above all else.

Dr. Barber received the Legacy Award at the 20th Annual Charter Schools Conference. The Legacy Awards were created to celebrate those outstanding charter school supporters, funders, operators and elected officials who have been stewards of the movement over the last 20 years. Each Legacy Award winner represents the hope and dedication of two generations of California Charter School students.
