Travis Blagg was appointed principal of the Sierra Foothill Charter School in June 2012. During the interview process, Blagg communicated his vision, not only for a new school, but also for a community. His focus, his goals and his leadership qualities all center on building relationships.
Sierra Foothill is in Catheys Valley and is a free, nonprofit, public school serving students from kindergarten through eighth grade. Blagg has worked with individualized learning plans and he’s familiar with managing school budgets and allocating scarce resources.
One of his strengths is in bringing people together. He plans to work with teachers, students and parents to clearly define academic expectations, follow disciplinary guidelines and develop a positive relationship with the Mariposa County Unified School District. Having been a district employee for seven years should help him achieve this.
The main thing that attracted Blagg to the position was what Sierra Foothill is going to be: a school that values collaboration with all those who have a stake in the project.
